Mission Beach enjoys a beautiful rainforest backdrop, being located in the heart of the Wet Tropics famous for the Cassowary sightings. Summer is the time of year when the rainforests recieve their yearly drink, with amazing tropical storms occuring mostly in the evenings.
If you’ve never been in a tropical downpour, you’ll love summer in Mission Beach! The rain is thunderously hard, and often lasts the whole night. It’s astonishing to see how much rain falls.
You’ll enjoy beautifully warm days perfect for working on your tan, or lazing around on the beach. Toward the afternoon the clouds will often collect and begin their rumblings for the tropical rain ahead.
Summer is an ideal time to visit Mission Beach if you love tropical fruit. The area has a large number of farms nearby, and you’ll likely find some exotic fruit you’ve never heard of. Mangoes are plentiful, but also look for lychees, rambutan, and the famous mangosteen. Although the beginning of autumn is often rainy, you’ll find the temperature cools off sharply in the evening and you’ll enjoy the outdoor lifestyle living that North Queensland is famous for. Enjoy sunset drinks on the deck of your holiday home, beach BBQs and long walks.
It’s in autumn you’ll see locals reaching for their jumpers as the temperature starts to dip below 20C. Most people holidaying from Australia’s southern states will adore the clear skies and warm days.
Stinger season also finishes in autumn, so we see the stinger nets removed from the water and all the beaches are open for swimming.
High season in Mission Beach, winter is when the town springs to life. People from the colder states flock to North Queensland to soak up our warmth!
Days are glorious with clear blue skies, soaked with sunshine. Beaches are popular with families and couples providing gentle sea breezes and calm water for swimming.
The cooler nights are still warm for most with the tempertures not dipping below 15C. Enjoy our selection of alfresco restaurants, or spend a night in on the barbeque.
There are many outdoor activities to enjoy in winter too; rainforest walks, sailing, fishing, snorkelling and swimming. You will see lots of people just enjoying the sunshine with couples holding hands, sunbathers and picnics.
If you’re a wildlife fan, spring is the best time to visit Mission Beach. It’s breeding season for the much loved Cassowary, so your chances of a sighting is greatly increased by the extra activity of these birds.
Also common during spring are sightings of amazing buttflies of this area, the Ulysses Butterfly and Cairns Birdwing. Both butterflies are brightly coloured and quite large.
All things in the water are celebrated during the Mission Beach Aquatic Festival at Wongaling Beach. It’s a family event with lots of outdoor activities.
In late Spring the temperature warms up again, and those who enjoy the sun and the water will want to be here.
